There is always something happening in our area that is of interest. Here we post the news and activities taking place at the TreeHouse, within the Islands Region and other relevant events in PNG. This is to assist you in planning your visit with us.

We were swimming with dolphins near Raul Island and enjoying the pristine water of our northern dive sites....

The northern hemisphere storm swells roll in season from November through to April. There are seven great beach sites along the highway..... also Pikinini Point, a long right hander at Kavieng Harbour entrance and across the channel is the equally awsome left hander. There are also a number of islands and channels near Kavieng that provide a formidable selection of surfing sites like this one at Edmagau Island

We now have two jet flights a day except for weekends. Routes alternate from POM - KAV direct, via Rabaul and via Manus.

We at the TreeHouse are continually pushing the envelope for EcoResorts. The big decision right now is if we will generate our backup power with a fire breathing, environmentally friendly steam engine or a bio-friendly, quiet running diesel engine using our own home-made BioDiesel. There is a plentiful supply of coconut oil or palm oil which our tests have confirmed... converts well into BioDiesel. The by-product is carbon dioxide which plants use and glycerin which we plan to blend into our own line of TreeHouse Soaps and shampoos.

The TreeHouse owns Poton Mountain rainforest area and down to the Coast .... over 2000 hectares that has been purposely retained in its original state. It is planned to register the area for wildlife conservation. It includes the impressive rainforest of the west coast Kaut area about 35 minutes drive directly across the island from the TreeHouse. It is only accessible by a fine weather 4WD track or banana boat. It is the starting point of many interesting nature walks.

We are located only 150 nautical miles south of the equator so our weather is always mild with balmy 28 degree days and cooler evenings. The sea temperature averages 26 degrees.

The North West - Kavieng - THV end of New Ireland is flat and generally enjoys low humidity with plentiful breezes. From April to November it is the South East trade wind season with predictable sunny days and the occasional afternoon shower. December to May is the NW season with days of calms or at times, squally with breezes of up to 25 knots.

Air Niugini (PX) operate a number of international flights that depart from Tokyo (Narita), Singapore, Manila, Fiji, Sydney, Brisbane & Cairns. These aircraft connect with the PX internal F28 jets via Port Moresby to Kavieng (1:30 direct). Qantas (QF) also service Port Moresby from Sydney & Brisbane, Currently only some flights out of Cairns will connect same day to Kavieng. All other flights have to overnight in Port Moresby (POM). For travelers with more time there are weekly passenger vessels which connects with Rabaul, Kimbe & Lae.

PNG is a vast country with many ethnic groups and lifestyles. It is a country with so much to offer in scenery, wilderness, culture, adventure, lifestyle and hospitality. On occasions the international Embassies issue Travel Alerts. These are to warn intending travelers of a problem in a particular area or an incident. This is procedure whilst necessary at the time, unfortunately reflects poorly on the vast remaining regions of PNG where the communities live the normal, peaceful, Melanesian lifestyle. New Ireland is one of these quite but interesting places.

All air travelers currently have to connect through the Port Moresby - Jackson's Airport. When over-nighting there are many fine hotels near the airport like the Airways Hotel or Gateway Hotel who provide a very high standard of safe, secure accommodation and free transfers.

The more popular areas for travelers to visit in PNG are some parts of the highlands, the north coast of the mainland, Milne Bay area and the Islands Region to the north including.... the Bismark Archipelago where New Ireland and Kavieng are located.

Yup..... the big question... there is malaria in the lowlands of PNG. I get it from time to time. You can take a propylaxis (preventative dose usually weekly) or consult your local doctor for the best medication to suit you.

The Treehouse has Digicell Mobile phone service (675- 726 44433) at the Kavieng office and can provide 24hr Fax / Phone / Email services.

Visas can be issued on arrival at Jackson/s Airport. A malaria preventative should be taken for your visit to PNG as per your doctors instructions. There is the Bank of South Pacific Foreign Currency Exchange at Jackson's.

In Kavieng we have the Bank of South Pacific and the Westpac Bank. The THV will accept most credit cards or cash payments in USD, JAP, EURO, AUST. Hire vehicles are available with Hertz, Avis & Budget. There are also some local hire car company's at very competitive rates.

Local charges can be paid by Credit Card - VISA, MASTERCARD, ANZ, BSP & WestPac.

50% deposit of accommodation & meals to confirm booking, non refundable 60 days prior to booked arrival date. Final payment to be made 30 days prior to arrival.

Payment Terms and Conditions

The initial enquire is only Provisional and may be cancelled at anytime without notification by the TreeHouse should another Confirmed booking be accepted for these dates.

To Confirm a booking a deposit of 50% or full payment is required. Final payment is required 60 days prior to date booked.

A refund is provided less a 10% booking fee for a cancellation prior to 60 days before the booked arrival date.

A refund is provided less a 50 % cancellation fee for a cancellation made between 59 days & 15 days before the booking arrival date. No refund is provided for a cancellation made less than 14 days before the booked arrival date.

Approved Companies, Govt Departments & NGO's need to fax (9842693) a copy of Govt. or Company cheque to upgrade from Provisional to Confirmed, the cheque must be presented on date of arrival.

Bookings include airport transfers FOC, but do not include meals, drinks, other transfers, activities or tour costs unless specified on the invoice.

When transferring funds a copy of the payment amount and method must be faxed or emailed to us as the bank does not notify us of any deposits.

All persons taking part in diving and other tour activities will be requested to sign the following Release Agreement.

THE UNDERSIGNED, WHILE PARTICIPATING IN ANY ACTIVITIES PROVIDED BY TREEHOUSE VILLAGE RESORT, HEREBY EXONERATES AND AGREES TO INDEMNITY TREEHOUSE VILLAGE RESORT, THEIR OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS OR SERVANTS, FROM AND AGAINST ALL LIABILITIES FOR ANY PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, LOSS OR WRONGFULL DEATH SUSTAINED BY THE UNDERSIGNED IN THE COURSE OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH ANY DIVING, BOATING, TOURING, TREKKING OR OTHER ACTIVITY ORGANIZED BY TREEHOUSE VILLAGE RESORT. THE UNDERSIGNED AGREES THAT IT IS THEIR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE THEIR OWN TRAVEL INSURANCE TO COVER ANY INJURY RELATING TO TRAVEL, DIVING, TOURING, TRANSPORT OR AN ACCIDENT THAT WILL PROVIDE FOR LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL AND MEDIVAC SERVICES AS REQUIRED AND FOR LOSS OF SERVICES RELATING TO ANY FORM OF TRAVEL OR TRANSPORT DELAYS.

THE UNDERSIGNED AGREES THAT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL HE/SHE OR HIS/HER HEIRS EXECUTORS. ADMINISTRATORS AND ASSIGNS PROSECUTE, PRESENT ANY CLAIM FOR PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE OR WRONGFUL DEATH AGAINST TREEHOUSE VILLAGE RESORT, OR ANY OF ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR SERVANTS FOR NAY SAID CAUSES OF ACTION WHETHER THE SAME SHALL ARISE BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF ANY SAID PERSONS OR OTHERWISE.

THE UNDERSIGNED AGREES TO HONOUR AND RESPECT THE COMMERCIAL CONFIDECIALITY OF THE TREEHOUSE VILLAGE RESORT OPERATIONS, DIVING, TOURS AND SERVICES AND WILL NOT PASS ON TO OTHER PERSONS, COMPANIES OR COMPETITORS INFORMATION THAT WOULD DISADVANTAGE IN ANY WAY THE TREEHOUSE VILLAGE RESORT AND IT’S OPERATIONS.

CONSERVATION AGREEMENT

THE UNDERSIGNED HEREBY AGREES TO LEAVE ALL SITES OF SAID ACTIVITIES UNDISTURBED THAT HE/SHE WILL NOT WILLFULLY DAMAGE, COLLECT NOR REMOVE ANY LIVE ANIMAL, SHELLFISH, FISH, CORAL, FLORA & FAUNA AND ITEMS PERTAINING TO SHIPWRECKS, INCLUDING FIXTURES FROM THEIR PRESENT ENVIRONMENT.

THE UNDERSIGNED ACKNOWLEDGES THAT ALL SUCH ANIMALS, SHELLFISH, FISH, CORAL AND SHIPWRECKS ARE THE PROPERTY AND NATIONAL HERITAGE OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA AND MAY NOT BE REMOVED/COLLECTED WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF THE PAPUA NEW GUINEA GOVERNMENT.

MEDICAL STATEMENT

THE UNDERSIGNED HEREBY STATES THAT HE/SHE IS IN GOOD HEALTH FOR DIVING, TOURING & TREKING. THAT HE/SHE HAS NO MEDICAL HISTORY OF CARDIO-VASCULAR DISEASE, ASTHMA OR EPILEPSY, NEITHER HAS HE/SHE WILL OBTAIN AND FOLLOW MEDICAL ADVISE BEFORE UNDERTAKING DIVING. HE/SHE AGREES THAT IF HE/SHE HAS ANY MEDICAL CONDITION CONTRARY TO DIVING, THEN HE/SHE WILL PRODUCE A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE PRIOR TO DIVING.
